To Love

"No one ever gets tired of loving. They just get tired of waiting, apologizing, getting disappointed and being hurt."

This is a quote that I saw on twitter the other day. It struck me and I looked at it for a little while, then stumbled through my morning routine with coffee cup in hand trying to wake up. However, that quote never left the back of my mind all day. I've been trying to figure out why I kept thinking about that, why I kept remembering past relationships, and what I believed about love.

I don't agree with that quote.

This is why that quote stuck with me. The whole idea that it is a "risk" to love is not okay with me. It's a risk? What...Why? Because you have been disappointed and hurt by "love"? I'm sorry....but if that is the case, then that is your fault. (I'm speaking to myself more than anyone else right now!) This is why I believe this and came to this realization this morning; there is nothing in my life that happens that God didn't know about. To love is what God has called us to do. To love is what God did, has done, and will continue to do in our lives.

We become disappointed when we use the word "love" too loosely. That is where the risk and disappointment comes in. We confuse this beautiful word "love" with things like attraction and interest in one another. We use the word "love" in a way that sets us up for disappointment, for a risk to be hurt. So yes, this quote is true with how we use "love" to describe our human feelings, actions, affections. But it is not true when we follow a God who has loved us and this world in a way that we will never understand.

We have a promise from God about love.
You see, His love is never changing, never failing, and never ending.
His love is forgiving, merciful, and unconditional.
His love cannot be compared to the way we use "love" in this world.

We need to awaken and understand the reality of love. Love is an action, love is demonstrated by our creator who sacrificed His son to save us. That is love. I challenge you to rethink the way we look at love. Love does not disappoint.
