To Be Engaged

I want to live a life that is fully engaged to the people and things around me.

This time in age we have so many things to distract us; fight for our attention. Probably right now you have your phone with you and texts are going off, we have our laptops...then we have TVs in the background, billboards on the side of the road, radios in every car. The list can go on and on. One of my challenges this year is to not be so caught up with these distractions that I lose sight of God in my every day life. These distraction cause us to be a generation of half way people. We are half way tuned in to life and half way tuned into a life that is accessed through technology. But God isn't a half way God. He is a God that is fully engaged with each one of our lives. We must model after Him in our we live our lives in community with each other.

The end of last semester I challenged myself to go without my phone from 9am - 4pm every day. This was harder than I thought, why? Because Any free moment I would not have my phone, I would look around and realize everyone else did. Everyone would be glued to their phones or laptops; unaware of anything that happened around them. That's when it struck me: we are a generation that is present with each other, but never engaged with each other. We sit in each other presence, but we are engaged in a different life. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that we are not impacting each other through technology. I have had some of the most incredible conversations through my phone. There is power behind this technology and should be used to its potentional. However, when the people around us are cut out of our impact because of the technology and distractions around us, that's when I believe it becomes a problem.

I learned one of the most valuable things about life during this week period of no cell phone.
We must strive be fully engaged with life where you are in that moment.
Why? Because God has orchastrated our very life to work for His perfect will. So wherever you are at the moment, God wants you there to show His glory and love. Maybe you don't know why God has you there. Maybe it's a place you go to day after day and it seems so mundane. Im confident, however, that God knows no accident and wants to use us every minute of the day to be His hands and feet.

Therefore, be careful how we disengage ourselves from this life to live in a cyber generation. We might just be missing a divine intersection that God has purposely placed in our lives.
